Universal Robina Corporation Sugar and Renewables Technical & Development Department is looking for a
Electrical Planner.
What are the Roles and Responsibilities
The Electrical Planner under the Technical Development Department plays a vital role in supporting capital projects, plant improvements, and strategic maintenance initiatives. This role is responsible for the planning, scheduling, and coordination of electrical works related to plant upgrades, installations, rehabilitation, and other development projects. The Electrical Planner ensures that all activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory and engineering standards.
What are the Roles and Responsibilities
1. Electrical Planning for Projects and Technical Improvements
- Develop detailed plans and work packages for electrical components of capital projects, system upgrades, and technical improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, and operations to define scope, timelines, resources, and deliverables.
- Ensure alignment of electrical planning activities with project timelines, budget constraints, and overall development goals.
2. Support to Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Programs
- Provide technical input to enhance existing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical equipment.
- Develop and recommend electrical upgrade paths for aging systems based on analysis and industry best practices.
- Contribute to the evaluation of plant reliability data to guide system improvement recommendations.
3. Compliance and Technical Standardization
- Ensure all project-based electrical activities adhere to national codes, international standards (IEC/IEEE), and internal engineering specifications.
- Support the preparation of required documentation for compliance, including electrical load calculations, single-line diagrams, and risk assessments.
- Participate in technical audits and support regulatory inspections when necessary.
4. Project and Work Coordination
- Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and vendors to facilitate timely completion of electrical aspects of projects.
- Participate in design reviews, technical evaluations, and commissioning processes.
- Track and report project progress, risks, and performance of electrical-related activities.
5. Resource, Materials, and Cost Management
- Define electrical material specifications and ensure timely procurement through collaboration with Engineering, Procurement, and Materials Control.
- Estimate labor and material requirements for electrical works during planning stages.
- Monitor cost performance of electrical scopes within project budgets and recommend cost control measures.
6. Documentation, Reporting, and Analysis
- Maintain accurate documentation of electrical drawings, plans, project logs, and asset histories.
- Prepare technical reports, including updates on electrical works, project milestones, and risk mitigation efforts.
- Analyze work outcomes and post-implementation performance to guide continuous improvement.
7. Innovation and Technical Development
- Identify and recommend new technologies, tools, and systems that enhance electrical reliability and plant performance.
- Assist in feasibility studies and pilot implementation of new electrical technologies.
- Collaborate with engineering experts in developing standards and best practices for electrical design and project execution.
What are the Qualifications
1. Education and Licensure
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Must be a Licensed Electrical Engineer.
2. Experience
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical planning or project execution in a manufacturing, utilities, or industrial plant environment.
- Experience in engineering or project-based teams is a strong advantage.
3. Technical Competence
- Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, control panels, switchgears, and electrical protection systems.
- Proficiency in electrical design tools and maintenance planning systems (e.g., AutoCAD, SAP, CMMS).
4. Project and Planning Skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage complex timelines and interdependencies.
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., MS Project or Primavera) is a plus.
5. Communication and Collaboration
- Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, maintenance, operations, procurement, and external contractors.
- Strong written and verbal communication for reporting and documentation.
6. Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Solid understanding of electrical safety protocols (e.g., lock-out/tag-out, arc flash, grounding), regulatory standards, and energy codes.

- Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset with interest in new technologies and process optimization.
