Data Privacy Officer
This role plays a pivotal part in cultivating a strong culture of data privacy within the organization. The Data Privacy Officer (DPO) ensures that personal data is processed in a lawful, fair, and transparent manner, safeguarding the privacy rights of individuals. The DPO will oversee and guide the organization in complying with data privacy laws and regulations, ensuring that data protection principles are embedded in organizational processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure organizational compliance with the Data Privacy Act, implementing rules, and regulations, as well as other relevant policies from the National Privacy Commission (NPC).
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Assist in the creation, continuous improvement, and enforcement of data privacy policies and procedures within the organization, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and best practices.
Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA):
- Lead and oversee Privacy Impact Assessments to identify and mitigate risks associated with personal data processing activities.
Data Breach Management:
- Coordinate responses to personal data breaches, including notifying the NPC and affected individuals, conducting investigations, and implementing preventive measures.
Data Subject Rights Management:
- Ensure mechanisms are in place for individuals to exercise their data privacy rights under the Data Privacy Act (e.g., right to access, correct, and object to the processing of personal data).
Staff Training and Awareness:
- Conduct training sessions and awareness programs for employees on data privacy principles, legal requirements, and safeguarding personal data.
NPC Liaison:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the organization and the National Privacy Commission, facilitating communication and responding to inquiries and audits.
Internal Communication & Change Management:
- Act as a communication liaison, ensuring accountability in internal communications, influencing stakeholders in change management processes, and acting as the point person for internal cascades.
Internal Audits:
- Conduct internal audits to ensure the effectiveness of established policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Experience: At least 1+ years of experience in data protection compliance, preferably in a BPO or corporate setting.
- Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of Philippine laws, particularly the Data Privacy Act of 2012, along with familiarity with GDPR and international data privacy regulations.
- Skills: Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills. Experience in legal, audit, or risk management roles is highly beneficial.
- Integrity: High level of integrity and ethical conduct, with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information under pressure.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Certifications: Certification in data protection or as a Data Privacy Officer is a plus.
